Overview

Cornea 550+ is a multifunctional corneal topographer for optometrists and contact lens practitioners. It combines corneal topography, contact lens fitting tools and a dry eye report in one compact device, so the practice can assess the corneal surface, choose a lens and evaluate the tear film without moving the patient. It replaces the Cornea 550, with a newer focus design and a higher resolution camera that improve repeatability. Clear, intuitive graphics on a high definition screen make results easy to share with patients.

Essilor Cornea 550+ multifunctional corneal topographer

Precise evaluation of the corneal surface

  • Corneal topography with a wide choice of graphic presentations to support anterior segment evaluation.
  • Keratoconus screening module giving useful pre-operative information for more informed clinical decisions.
  • Detection of corneal irregularities, with repeatability improved over the Cornea 550 thanks to the new focus design and 1440 x 1080 colour camera.

White light is used for topography and videokeratoscopy, blue light at 470 nm for fluorescein images and video, and infrared at 940 nm for pupillography and meibography.

Streamlined contact lens fitting

Fluorescein image simulation helps the practitioner choose the most suitable lens from an extensive built-in library covering 27 contact lens brands, reducing trial and error at the fitting stage. Dynamic and static pupillography captures pupil reactions in photopic, mesopic and scotopic conditions, which helps when planning lens designs that depend on pupil size. Topography maps can be compared over time to follow up a fit, and the clear graphics help explain the result to the wearer.

Tear film analysis for dry eye

Cornea 550+ adds tear film tools that support dry eye assessment in the same visit:

  • NIBUT: non-invasive tear film break-up time, recorded with video and pictures.
  • Meibography with a colour grading scale to evaluate meibomian gland loss.
  • Lipid layer assessment with the optional auxiliary cone.

The results can be combined into a dry eye report to share with the patient and to guide management.
