Overview
me-check® by Espansione is a screening device for in-depth evaluation of the meibomian glands and other key ocular surface parameters in meibomian gland dysfunction and dry eye disease. It is designed for optometrists and eye care practices that want a quick, affordable and repeatable way to screen patients. An average test of both eyes takes about five minutes from start to finish, with no harm or discomfort for the patient. Espansione states it is certified as a CE Class IIa medical device, also for use in optical practices.
Developed with practitioners
me-check® was developed in cooperation with Dr Heiko Pult and Professor James Wolffsohn. It uses the Meiboscale developed by Dr Pult to grade meibomian gland loss, alongside the OSDI-6 symptom questionnaire developed with Professor Wolffsohn. The software is built on repeatable, reliable algorithms and packaged in a clear, operator-friendly interface, so practice staff can run the screening and the practitioner gets an actionable result in under five minutes.
How it works
- Eye test: both eyes are imaged, for example with 2D or 3D meibography. Further tests can include interferometry and blink quality, depending on the edition.
- OSDI-6: the practitioner completes the questionnaire in about five minutes and enters the answers directly into me-check® OS.
- Assessment: me-check® OS gives an overview of the patient’s condition using Dr Pult’s Meiboscale.
- Treatment: results can be loaded into eye-light®, meibomask® or my-mask®, or emailed to the practitioner who will treat the patient.

How long does a me-check® screening take?

What is the difference between the Basic and Full editions?
Basic offers 2D meibography and OSDI-6. Full adds 3D meibography, 12-level meibography and five-zone evaluation of the glands.
Does me-check® treat dry eye?
No. me-check® is a screening device. Its results guide treatment with eye-light®, meibomask® or my-mask®.
