Overview
meibomask® by Espansione is a professional light therapy device dedicated to LM™ LLLT, Espansione’s patented low-level light photobiomodulation technology. It is designed for practices that want to manage anterior segment conditions such as dry eye disease caused by meibomian gland dysfunction, chalazion and blepharitis. The mask covers both the upper and lower eyelids, so one session treats the full eyelid area. It shares the industrial design of the other Espansione solutions and needs minimal training.
How LM™ LLLT works
meibomask® emits near-infrared light onto the skin of the eyelids at a medically certified wavelength. According to Espansione, the light acts on the mitochondria in the cells, stimulating ATP production and generating gentle endogenous heat. This process is described as helping to increase and stabilise the tear lipid layer. The treatment is entirely non-invasive, and Espansione reports that patients often feel relief shortly after the session. Results vary between patients, and the practitioner plans the course of treatment.
Personalised with me-check®
meibomask® can deliver custom treatments based on the severity of meibomian gland dysfunction found with a me-check® screening. Depending on the degree of gland loss, it sets the amount of energy and the treatment duration for each patient. For the operator this means little set-up and consistent delivery from one session to the next. For practices that also need intense pulsed light, eye-light® combines LM™ LLLT with OPE™ IPL in one device.
