Overview
my-mask® by Espansione is a portable, lightweight light therapy device for managing anterior segment conditions, mainly dry eye disease caused by meibomian gland dysfunction. It uses Espansione’s patented red LM™ LLLT photobiomodulation technology in a compact form, so treatment can be given in the practice or, where the practitioner agrees, at home. Despite the name, my-mask® is not a myopia device: it does not correct or control short-sightedness. It is a dry eye and ocular surface treatment.
How it works
The mask covers both the upper and lower eyelids and emits light onto the skin at a medically certified wavelength. According to Espansione, the light acts on the mitochondria in the cells, stimulating ATP production and generating gentle endogenous heat, which is described as helping to increase and stabilise the tear lipid layer. Each session lasts about 15 minutes and is entirely non-invasive. Espansione reports that patients often feel relief straight after a session. Results vary, and the practitioner plans the course of treatment.
Part of the Espansione ecosystem
my-mask® shares the industrial design of the other Espansione solutions. Both the device body and the mask are designed for comfort, whether the treatment is given by the practice or self-administered by the patient as instructed. Practitioners can screen first with me-check® and load the result into the treatment workflow. For in-practice treatment with both photobiomodulation and intense pulsed light, eye-light® combines LM™ LLLT and OPE™ IPL in one device.
